Universal Credit Advice Service

What is it?

In addition to our general benefits advice service, Mind CHWF is now offering an advice service aimed around supporting residents of the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest to claim Universal Credit. The service, which started in September 2019, offers advice and support from the point of claim up to and including the Work Capability Assessment.

From one-off benefit advice to ongoing support from the team, our Welfare Rights service is here to support you with your Universal Credit Claim.

We help with:

  • Making the initial claim
  • Attending Job Centre Plus appointments
  • Filling out the UC50 health questionnaire
  • Attending health assessments
  • Managing your claim
  • Disputing incorrect decisions made by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)

In addition to this, this service is also feeding into national campaigning efforts alongside several other local Minds across the country with the aim of improving the benefits system and holding the DWP and government to account.

Peer Support

Mind CHWF’s Universal Credit Advice Service is partly staffed by peer workers with lived experience of mental ill health and claiming benefits.
