SUMMARY
Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest is the leading charity in East London supporting people with mental health problems and working to improve wellbeing. This post will involve working closely with the local East London NHS Foundation Trust.
We are currently recruiting for a new Trainee Welfare Rights Adviser and are looking for passionate individuals to join the team. No professional experience or qualifications are required for this role, however lived experience is welcome.
The role involves working directly with adults with physical and mental health conditions to attain financial security and independence. You will spend your time working with clients over long periods of time to help them to secure income via sickness and disability benefits. You will support them to challenge bad decisions made by the Department for Work and Pensions, often representing cases at Tribunal.
You will receive extensive training in the benefits system as well as other relevant topics such as various mental health conditions, managing challenging behaviour, professional boundaries, and case management. You will be supported by a friendly team of experienced advisers who will assist you as you learn how to manage benefits claims and work cases in the medium and long term.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about social justice and the empowerment of marginalised people and excited to learn valuable skills on the job over the course of a 12-month traineeship, with a permanent position within the team a desired outcome should funding permit.
