In the latest episode of Russell Brand’s podcast, MIND Ambassador Fearne Cotton spoke about a recent trip to Mind in Hackney where she took part in a spoken word therapy group.

In the interview, she admits to feeling unsure of how the day was going to unfold before stating that it “was one of the most beautiful afternoons that I have ever had- it was incredible.”

She commented that Wanda Canton, the group facilitator, “led this class with empathy, compassion and sensitivity” and helped the attendees “realise that we all had similarities and a connection that brought us together”.

Fearne spoke about one woman’s experience in the group who, prior to visiting MindCHWF, had not left the house in eight years. Fearne commented that “her poetry was incredible because she was channelling every bit of that darkness and fear that had stopped her from living a normal life”

Other attendees spoke about how since visiting groups ran by MindCHWF, they have been given the confidence to attend local open mic nights. Fearne comments that these are “people who felt completely ill at ease with themselves prior to stepping into this local mind.”
